A big thank you to those of you who shared your Friday evening with us at the wonderful Curzon Mayfair to celebrate the 25th anniversary of this masterpiece by Jane Campion - the first female director to win the Cannes Palme d’Or. The film won widespread critical and audience acclaim on its release in 1993 and won Oscars for both Hunter (Best Actress in a Leading Role) and Paquin (Best Actress in a Supporting Role) as well as a Best Original Screenplay for Campion’s script. The film is as powerful today as it was a quarter of a century ago.
Thanks also to those of you who stayed for our A&Q discussion, hosted by Birds' Eye View Director and Oscar/BAFTA-winning producer, Mia Bays, with: Writer and critic Kate Muir, Founder of 'Women and Hollywood', Melissa Silverstein, and BAFTA nominated filmmaker, Tina Ghavari. The overall response from your feedback (thanks for taking the time to complete) was amazing - mostly 5 stars with the consensus being you wished it had lasted longer! We'll see what we can for future screenings.
Also, thank you to our BEVIs for all your hard work, support and infectious energy - we couldn't do it without you.
The Piano is to return to UK cinemas on June 15 to mark the 25th anniversary of its original theatrical release. A DVD, Blu-Ray and digital download will follow. Please spread the word!
Until next time...
