To celebrate the release of Palestine 36, Reclaim The Frame joined forces with Girls on Tops to honour the legendary Annemarie Jacir, a Palestinian filmmaker whose previous work includes Wajib, Salt of this Sea and When I Saw You.

Jacir’s latest film, Palestine 36 takes us back to 1936 Mandatory Palestine where tensions are rising and the call for revolt against British colonial rule is growing louder. By following the lives of its characters, this powerful film captures a moment in history that is still felt today. Palestine 36 has been selected as the Palestinian entry for the Oscars and has been shortlisted for the 38th European Film Awards, reaffirming her presence as a leading voice in contemporary Arab cinema.

Reclaim The Frame supported her previous film When I Saw You, hosting its premiere at Bird Eye View Film Festival in 2012 and then again at our 20th Anniversary International Women’s Day Weekender event in March of this year. The screening was followed by a live Q&A with Annemarie Jacir, who has long been a supporter of Reclaim The Frame’s mission. Through stories of identity, displacement and belonging, her work reclaims the narrative for Palestinians to tell stories on their own terms.

To mark the release of Palestine 36, Reclaim The Frame, Curzon and Girls On Tops have collaborated on a limited-edition Annemarie Jacir tee, available to pre-order on the Girls on Tops website now. All proceeds will be donated to Medical Aid for Palestinians, an organisation that supports urgent humanitarian relief for the people of Gaza.

Palestine 36 is out in cinemas now.
