Following a widely circulated open call, we're thrilled to welcome four new members to our Boards of Trustees: film financier and investment manager Carine Hejazi; creative industries coach and facilitator Holly Tarquini; screen industries strategist Mariayah Kaderbhai; and marketing and publicity specialist Sam Joly.
Bringing their expertise to the charity’s mission to advocate for gender justice in cinema, Carine, Holly, Mariayah & Sam will join existing members: producer Fozia O’Dowd; exhibitor and producer Rebecca del Tufo; distributor Sophie Doherty; producer Yaw Basoah; and Chair of the Board of Trustees and wellbeing & EDI consultant Valeria Bullo.
This announcement follows news of its nomination for Charity of the Year award by British Diversity Awards and the launch of its ‘Give to Gain’ campaign, calling on the support of its community to help sustain the charity’s work in light of a major project fund concluding, compounded with the impact of cuts to the arts and rollbacks in EDI investment.
Carine Hejazi (she/her) is the Investment Manager at Fourth Culture Films, where she is in charge of sourcing, evaluating, and pricing projects across film and TV. A lifelong cinephile, she spent 10 years in Capital Markets before attending the NFTS for her MA and switching careers to film. Hailing from a multi-cultural background, Carine is passionate about championing diverse voices.
Holly Tarquini (she/her) is a producer, business coach and creative facilitator working across the creative industries and social impact sector. She founded the intersectional feminist F-Rating, spent twelve years running Bath Film Festival where she championed bold storytelling and independent film, and has since produced international events such as the Global Reuse Summit. Originally a producer-director in documentary television, Holly has spent much of her career creating spaces where ideas, people and stories can meet.
Mariayah Kaderbhai (she/her) is a screen-sector strategist, producer and curator with over two decades of experience across film and television. She was formerly Head of Programmes at BAFTA, where she oversaw a portfolio of more than 250 industry events annually, convening global creative leaders and shaping conversations around craft, representation and the future of the screen industries. During her time at BAFTA she led a number of flagship initiatives focused on talent development and inclusion, including Elevate, and authored BAFTA’s social mobility resource Invisible Barriers. Alongside her work at BAFTA, she worked as a producer and journalist on Al Jazeera’s The Fabulous Picture Show, contributing to international film coverage and interviews with leading global filmmakers.
Sam Joly (she/her) is Head of Strategy at Industria Studios, building new partnerships and helping to produce their original slate of film and television. She previously ran marketing and publicity at See-Saw Films, where she was responsible for defining the global marketing and publicity vision across the company and its projects, sales arm Cross City Films, and production labels.
