About The Event

"A candid, unsentimental, perceptive and, at times, profoundly moving portrait of the highs and lows of motherhood."
– Wendy Ide, Screen International

At 38, Victoria Mapplebeck found herself single, pregnant, and broke. Unable to juggle motherhood with her freelance directing career, she made the bold decision to turn the camera on herself and her son, Jim. Over the years, she filmed hundreds of hours of their lives—capturing everything from Jim’s thumbs-up at her first scan, to Victoria’s breast cancer diagnosis, his first day at college, and the legacy of two generations of absent fathers.
