A hilarious and unapologetically explicit story of cultural identity and self-discovery centering four friends who embark on a once-in-a-lifetime international adventure. Following an important business trip that goes awry, Audrey (Ashley Park), an overachieving lawyer at a prestigious law firm enlists three unlikely but loyal friends on a journey across China to find her birth mother. Along for the ride are Lolo (Sherry Cola), her irreverent, childhood best friend who also happens to be a hot mess; Kat (Stephanie Hsu), her college friend turned Chinese soap star; and Deadeye (Sabrina Wu), Lolo’s eccentric cousin. Written by Cherry Chevapravatdumrong and Teresa Hsiao (the writer / exec producer of Family Guy) and marking the directorial debut from Adele Lim (co-writer of CRAZY RICH ASIANS), JOY RIDE  is a laugh out loud, stereotype-busting, sex-positive, no-holds-barred story about getting to know, and love, who you are. All set to a banging Mando hip hop soundtrack, including a musical interlude of pure joy.

With special guest, Eva Serration, the drag alter ego of artist and circus performer David Hon Ma Chu. Plus a post-screening DJ set from Jeni Chan, who has been a consistent pillar of Manchester’s music and alternative arts scene for over 30 years.

Joy Ride will be presented with Descriptive Subtitles (SDH) and Audio Description (AD), and all event elements will be live captioned.
