Detroit: Screening and panel discussion

Join Birds Eye View on 29 August at Picturehouse Central for a screening of the acclaimed Detroit followed by a discussion with Jim Wilson (Under The Skin), Akua Gyamfi of the British Blacklist and film critic Anna Smith.

Directed by Kathryn Bigelow (Zero Dark Thirty) and written by Mark Boal, Detroit commemorates the fiftieth anniversary of the Algiers Motel incident during the city’s 1967 12th Street Riot, when three teenage civilians were killed by police.

Premiering at the Fox Theatre in Detroit in July, the film has been celebrated for Bigelow’s direction, Boal’s script and outstanding performances from John Boyega, Will Poulter and Algee Smith.

It has been called ‘a ferociously vivid riot epic that recreates one of the darkest chapters in America History’ by Empire, and ‘a horror movie made all the more horrible by the fact that it is true’ by The Atlantic.
