A recent dip in female-led theatrical releases in the UK - back to 2018 levels of 26% reminds us that our work is far from over; that we cannot be complacent.

Below you can read about the research we conduct into gender representation in film and the wider industry, tracking the release landscape to present an accurate picture of investment in films by filmmakers of marginalised genders.

Make a Divine Film

Chocolate & filmmaking – they go together like The King’s Speech and BAFTA awards. And so Birds Eye View is delighted to be joining forces with Divine Chocolate for Make a Divine Film – a chance to make a short film about the history of Divine Chocolate and tell the story of how it travels from the cocoa farms of Ghana to the goody bags at the Birds Eye View Festival.

Divine is a chocolate company on a mission… to deliver a sublime experience to chocolate lovers everywhere, while raising the bar on what it means to trade fairly with farmers, and do business in a better way. Divine is also a Birds Eye View favourite (as those who’ve sampled their chocolate in our Festival goody bags will know…)

To celebrate 100 years of International Women’s Day and women’s empowerment among the cocoa farmers of Ghana, Divine is joining forces with Birds Eye View to promote a wonderful opportunity for women filmmakers (professionals and amateurs) to create a short film about Divine. You have until April 15 to submit a pitch; and the winner will receive £2000 to produce the film, plus a year’s membership of Shooting People.

And if you’re looking for inspiration, check out the stellar line-up of Short films from the UK and across the world at this year’s Birds Eye View Festival – including Oscar-shortlisted and Cannes-winning shorts for the Opening Night Gala, plus the very best in UK and International Shorts at the ICA and BFI Southbank. Plus you you can pick up tips from the experts at the Innovation and Training events, including an interactive workshop on Making a Movie on your Mobile with Helen Keegan at BFI Southbank.
